What is a Remote Pilot Licence? (RePL)

The <7kg Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) is a great way for new and experienced drone pilots to enter the drone industry as an employee or contractor for a ReOC holder or for themselves.

The RePL drone course offers interactive online pre-course theory study modules through videos, manuals, and access to additional resources and quizzes in easy to follow modules which can be completed in your own time. Upon completion of your online pre-course theory you are able to join our weekly face-to-face live virtual classroom for 3-days with a professional RPAS instructor. Once you complete the 3-days theory you are able to book yourself in to a full day of flight training at one of our many locations around Australia. Once you're ready you are able to schedule yourself in to sit an exam and a flight assessment. You do not have to complete the entire course in one week. Our course is modular meaning you can attend as often as you can e.g. one day per week over 5 weeks or the whole course in 5-days or spread it out over a year.

Flight training and assessment days vary between states. The team at Droneit Training will mark your assessments the same day and notify you of your results. Upon passing you will be issued your <7kg Remote Pilot Licence once you have completed your paperwork.  Completion of the RePL course will allow you to fly multi-rotor RPA over 2Kg, and up to 7Kg, commercially, under an organisation's Remote Operator Certificate (ReOC). If you have any questions, concerns or unique situations please request a callback or give us a call.

If you wish to obtain your own ReOC and authorise your own flights learn more about obtaining your ReOC here.

Remote Pilot Licence Certification & Training

There is a strong possibility that while flying your drone you have one eye on the marketplace and are starting to notice the numbers of those that are earning by flying increasing. There is no doubt that this is a boom time for those with drones as companies have latched onto the capabilities that they bring and seek to take advantage of. However, to legally earn and to attract the kind of work that you might like, a remote pilot licence certification is an absolute must.

    Remote Pilot Licence Certification

At Droneit, we are a CASA drone training school. All of our online courses are CASA certified and they also meet insurance standards. What differentiates us from any other drone training service is the fact that we are a team of drone pilots who specialise in building advanced learning platforms. We understand the industry, we understand what it takes to safely and capably fly a drone and we have a better learning platform than anyone else in Australia.

What’s the Value of Having a Remote Pilot Licence?

Those with a Remote Operator Certificate (ReOC) issued by CASA can retain the services of drone pilots, which means that there are many different employers out there that can hire you to use your drone to achieve their goals. Remote Pilot Licence or RePL licence training is essential if you have no previous aviation experience. However, once you have it and start to gain a good reputation in the industry, this can afford you many lucrative opportunities.

Here at Droneit, our services are in place to ensure that pilots can earn money legally by flying their drones. If you are planning on making money from this activity commercially, then failure to do so without a licence could result in you breaking laws you didn't know in place and facing hefty fines.

A legitimate drone pilot that has the credentials to back their skills will always be much more attractive to companies that have a ReOC. The fact that you have completed the requisite training gives them confidence in your abilities and that you are fully aware of the prevailing regulations and laws, and will fly the drone safely and with consideration for others.

Education is something that gives confidence not only to you as a pilot but to those that hope to retain your services. Having a RePL licence in Australia separates you from the crowd and affords those that wish to benefit from the many ways drones can enhance a business additional faith in its ability to become a part of their enterprise going forward, which is good news for all drone pilots.

Invest In A Remote Pilot Licence

Past clients who undertook our courses here at Droneit have achieved the results that they wanted to at their own pace. Our easy to use online platform allows you to read, listen or watch the different training modules and you can even access free additional tutorials should you wish to gain a little more knowledge and insight.

The remote pilot licence course is the ultimate way to equip yourself with the knowledge and skill base required to competently fly your drone for commercial reasons. An investment in your education today is the passport toward future earning potential and so we encourage you to book a free career consultation today so that we can help point you in the right direction.

Droneit is a CASA drone training school that helps recreational & commercial fliers earn drone flying licences across Australia. We help train drone pilots and help fliers earn their remote pilot licence. Browse our website further or contact us for more information.

I have previously been denied an aviation-related license or certificate. Am I still eligible to apply for a ReOC?

Yes, you are still eligible to apply. While our CASA delegate cannot make the final determination or issue the ReOC in this case, we will prepare you and your operational manuals for a direct interview with CASA, where they will assess your eligibility.

If I have been refused a transport-related license, such as a driver’s or boating license, can I still pursue a ReOC?

Yes, a previous refusal of a transport-related license does not prevent you from applying. Although our CASA delegate cannot issue the ReOC under these circumstances, we will support you throughout the application process by preparing you and your materials for a CASA interview, where they will review your case.

I have a criminal conviction or finding of guilt. Will this affect my application for a ReOC?

If your conviction or finding of guilt is less than ten years old, or if it is a juvenile conviction less than five years old, this may affect your application. Although our CASA delegate cannot issue the ReOC in such cases, we will assist you in preparing all necessary documentation and materials for a direct assessment with CASA, who will make the final determination.

My current aviation license is under suspension or pending cancellation. Can I still apply for a ReOC?

Yes, you may still apply. However, our CASA delegate cannot make the final determination or issue the ReOC in this situation. You will need to attend an interview with CASA, who will assess your eligibility directly.

FAQS

Here are answers to some common questions.
  • What is a RePL?

A remote pilot licence (RePL) allows you to fly remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) in circumstances that need specialist training.

You'll need to apply for a RePL if you want to fly:

    • a drone larger than 2 kg for commercial operations - any time you earn money for flying
    • outside the drone safety rules (standard operating conditions)
    • for a remotely piloted aircraft operator's certificate (ReOC) holder.

If you want to fly for commercial purposes, you must also either hold a ReOC or work for a ReOC holder. If you get paid for flying your drone - you are flying commercially.

  • What is the Certificate III in Aviation (Remote Pilot)?

This is a qualification offered by RTOs in addition to a RePL. The Cert III is not connected or related to the CASA RePL in any way. It is not recognised by CASA therefore not required to be completed.

  • Is a RePL all I need?

If you want to fly a drone over 2Kg for commercial purposes, you must also either hold a ReOC or work for a ReOC holder. If you get paid for flying your drone - you are flying commercially.

    RePLs do not expire.

  • What is an AROC?

An AROC is an aeronautical radio operator certificate. You will need an AROC as a RPAS operator if you intend to transmit on an aeronautical radio frequency.

You must be 17 years old to obtain an AROC.

  • What is a ReOC?

A remotely piloted aircraft operator's certificate (ReOC) allows you to earn money for flying, employ remote pilot licence (RePL) holders and fly outside the drone safety rules - also known as the standard operating conditions.

    A ReOC allows you to:

    • Flying closer than 30 metres.
    • Get approval to fly within restricted airspace, near aerodromes and extended and beyond visual line-of-sight variations.
    • Fly at night
    • Fly as close as 15m to people
    • Submit a Notice to Airmen alert (NOTAM).
  • Do I need a licence on my own land?

You do not require a RePL if:

    • you own the drone
    • your drone weighs between 100g and 25kg*
    • you - or someone flying on your behalf - are only flying over your own property
    • the drone and land are owned or leased by the same person
    • no money is paid for conducting the flight.

*You can fly a drone weighing up to 150 kg if you (or the person flying on your behalf) holds a RePL.

  • What is an ARN?

An ARN is your unique ID number that CASA uses to identify you each time you communicate with them. You need to obtain an ARN in order to complete your RePL, AROC, or ReOC.

  • I have previously been denied an aviation-related licence or certificate. Am I still eligible to apply for a ReOC?

Yes, you are still eligible to apply. While our CASA delegate cannot make the final determination or issue the ReOC in this case, we will prepare you and your operational manuals for a direct interview with CASA, where they will assess your eligibility.

  • If I have been refused a transport-related licence, such as a driver’s or boating license, can I still pursue a ReOC?

Yes, a previous refusal of a transport-related licence does not prevent you from applying. Although our CASA delegate cannot issue the ReOC under these circumstances, we will support you throughout the application process by preparing you and your materials for a CASA interview, where they will review your case.

  • I have a criminal conviction or finding of guilt.

  • My current aviation licence is under suspension or pending cancellation. Can I still apply for a ReOC?

Yes, you may still apply. However, our CASA delegate cannot make the final determination or issue the ReOC in this situation. You will need to attend an interview with CASA, who will assess your eligibility directly.
